Barack Obama trounces Hillary Clinton

We overflowed out of the gym and took up the library of the elementary school. This surge of new voters were for Obama, and they swamped the Clinton voters. Many were young, but some were retired, some had even been Republicans up until today. Obama is just bringing these people out of the woodwork.

Musicians donate tunes to benefit bridge victims

In order to get the collection together quickly, artists were asked to donate a song already in the can. But one participant, Coon Rapids-based country singer Rockie Lynne, said he felt compelled to write an original song about the tragedy.

"Songwriting is like farming," Lynne said. "You can put in a lot of hard work, but you can't make it rain. With this song, it rained right away, probably because I was so saddened that a tragedy like that could take place right where I live."

The result, "The Chance to Say Goodbye," is the collection's lead-off track.

"Imagine going off to work and never coming home/ Kissing your family, then leaving them alone through no fault of your own," sings Lynne. He goes on to sing of specific victims, such as a delivery truck driver and a mother with her son.

Coaches look for edge with sideline gadgetry

In the age of iPhones, Blackberrys, high speed Internet modems and every other technological advance never even dreamed of in the days of "Star Trek," high school football has joined the wave.

For fans on Friday nights and Saturday afternoons, the focus is on the 22 athletes on the field. But just outside the lines there's an ongoing technological revolution.

Equipment checks on game day go far beyond helmets and pads. Video cameras, audio headsets and laptop computers allow coaches to gather, communicate and analyze information faster than ever.

Far from camera shy

Film has largely gone the way of the dinosaur as the VHS tape is making way for the recordable DVD, and coaches end the practice day working with a machine that makes three DVD copies of a game at a time, all in about five minutes.

Wake-up call

If you're into gadgets, you could load books on to your BlackBerry. A blogger at www. ecogeek.org shares: "Whenever I have to wait, I just pull out my PDA and start reading, and I can read many books simultaneously. One downside comes when I'm really into the story and I start running out of battery - that never happens with real books."Posts at www.greenprinteronline.com/blog suggest an easier way: "Pick up an 'old school book thing' at your library – that's pretty green – and unplug yourself for the day."If you don't mind used books, there are plenty of them on www.amazon. co.uk, while http://ecostreet.com/ blog .

Review: Nikon Coolpix P50 digital camera

Nikon's P50 high-end digital compact camera swims against the tide of wafer-thin devices.

The camera's 3.6x zoom lens and the fast Expeed processor borrowed from Nikon’s SLRs are encased in a traditional-looking, relatively bulky, body.

Clearly, then, this is a camera for those who look for good value and appearance, with online stores offering the P50 at around £150.

Power comes courtesy of two regular AA batteries, providing 140 shots. Even with batteries and an SD memory card inserted the P50 feels lightweight, despite its looks.

It does boast features such as a spongy, leather-look grip, and both an optical viewfinder and a 2.4in screen. A light sensitivity range from ISO50 to ISO2000 is broader than most in its class.
