Candidates reveal differences at forum
Julia Valerma said the SmartCode encompasses most the Vision 20/20 plan touted by Struck and Gonzales over the SmartCode, but said it would define the current and immediate needs of the community. The Vision 20/20 Plan, which was created by extensive grassroots input in 1999, was never formally adopted by the town council. The SmartCode, a form-based zoning concept, was drafted by Albuquerque land use consultants PlaceMakers, but has not yet been formally discussed by the town council. It is meant to serve as a Land Use Master Plan.Comments about the series of disputes that has split the current town council for more than a year crept into nearly every response from the candidates.Richard Leirer suggested the council and the town employees attend non-violent communication training.Valerma said disagreements among council members would be less stark if the council defined goals and milestones to plan for the future.Gonzales and Struck suggested the "bickering" among the council members would be resolved if the councilors showed more respect for each other, but Pavel Lukes called the series of council votes that put Gonzales and Struck on one side of an issue and Councilors Rudy Abeyta and Darren Córdova on the other side as more than merely bickering."It’s not fighting.
VIDEO: We love our new Skulltrail
Intel loaned us the Skulltrail motherboard and two upcoming Core 2 Extreme processors, so we still have to procure the rest of the computer like a decent power supply, case, hard drives and graphics cards. Well have this baby up and running in a week and will start cranking Sony Vegas and Adobe Premiere rendering jobs through the system. We might throw a synthetic benchmark in just for kicks, but the emphasis will be how will eight cores benefit the average video editor? Our Theo Valich couldnt contain himself and started caressing the board on the convention floor. The board also sat as an honored guest for our post-GDC Dennys dinner. Hopefully we can get the board through San Franciscos airport security. .
Student filmmaker scores hometown screening at Tri-Valley festival
For his sophomore project, New York University film student Noah Lagin could have produced a cute piece of fluff comedy worthy of YouTube. Instead, the Pleasanton native decided to make the most of his $2,500 budget: he made a 12-minute movie about the Holocaust. Warsaw is a compressed thriller about a Jewish man in the Warsaw Ghetto confronting a Nazi soldier. Lagin will have his film screened at the Tri-Valley/Tri-City Jewish Film Series on March 2. It will be paired with Wondrous Oblivion, a British feature from 2003. Lagin wont be able to make the screening. A senior at NYUs Tisch School of the Arts, he is currently working on several film projects as a camera assistant. But hes happy to have his 2006 short film make its Bay Area premiere.
LeBron isn't a sure thing for MVP
He leads the NBA in scoring and, more importantly, in fourth-quarter scoring. He's averaging career highs in assists, rebounds and field goal percentage. He's developing a killer instinct — his supposed biggest flaw, listening to national pundits — and doing it right before everyone's eyes as he's led the Cavs to 18 fourth-quarter comeback wins so far this season. Not to mention, in a departure from seasons past, he and the Cavs have been dynamite when they've been on national television. They've won the last six games they've played on TNT, ESPN or ABC. Those performances have featured James flatly outplaying competitors like Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowitzki and Tim Duncan, to name a few. So this very well could be the year that James gets his first Most Valuable Player Award, right? After all, no one can compete with his stats and his profile has never been higher.
