Dog owner found guilty
Wednesday morning at Arvada Municipal Court, dog trainers and other witnesses will testify at a sentencing hearing about what makes the most sense for Rolo and his owner. Assistant Presiding Judge Michael Graber has a range of options, including: — Placing Rolo with another family. — Requiring that Rolo continue obedience training. — Requiring Hagan to take part in counseling programs. — Requiring Hagan to provide proof of liability insurance of at least $100,000. — Fining Hagan. But having Rolo destroyed remains one of the options. Arvada prosecutors said Hagan let Rolo run loose on July 1, 2007, and that Rolo bit neighbor Kathy Hardin, who had seen the dog charging, screamed and picked up her 14-month-old baby to protect him.
Emory Movie Wins Citywide Award
The sophomore filmmakers who won Best Picture at Emory's Campus MovieFest captured the Best Soundtrack award for the second year in a row at the college film festival's citywide competition on Saturday. Director Chris Knific and Assistant Directors Stephen Beehler and Arjun Joshi won a copy of Apple sound-editing software valued at $2,000 for the original soundtrack of their picture “Not Another Bollywood Movie." “I probably put in about 10 hours into the soundtrack," Knific said. Knific recorded the music — drums, guitar, bass and keyboards — in his dorm room, and Amit Bery sang the songs' lyrics, which were penned in Hindi by Joshi. The film, a story about an Indian couple who flees to America to get married against their parents' wishes, featured 16 other sophomores, who acted or danced in the film's Bollywood-inspired musical numbers.
TechBits: India Games, Internet Searches, China Technology, Web ...
Executives including Kai-Fu Lee, vice president of Google Inc. and president of Google Greater China, warned participants in an industry conference in Beijing this week against a get-rich-quick mentality. But they said that between strong investor interest and an education system churning out information technology graduates by the thousand, the groundwork is solid for years of continued steady growth in China. "For many Chinese young people and young students, they have a very strong desire for innovation, for being successful, for starting their own businesses," Kai-Fu Lee, vice president of Google Inc. and president of Google Greater China, told participants in an industry conference in Beijing this week. About 300,000 students receive high-tech degrees in China annually, said Zhang Ya-Qin, chief executive of Microsoft in China and its research development group.
Computerworld's Mac gift guide
With Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday now behind us, the holiday shopping season is in full swing. Last month, Computerworld offered our Holiday Gift Guide to help you sort through this year's gadgets and techie toys. But shopping for Mac users and Apple fans can sometimes be a challenge—especially if you want to get something other than the obvious choices, or if you're not as big an Apple fan as the person you're shopping for. With that in mind, here are 10 great gift ideas for the Mac user on your list. Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard If you're shopping for a die-hard Mac fan, chances are good that he has already upgraded to Leopard, which has been out since Oct. 26. Many users, however, delay making a major upgrade like this for weeks or months—sometimes for cost-related reasons, sometimes to make sure those first-release bugs have been found and fixed.
Exclusive: Brett Morgen's Chicago 10
We didn't deliver our final film until September and I did a little bit of work on it--I took a few minutes out--but about five weeks ago we were doing a screening at USC for students and I was like, "I better sit in and watch this because I have to start talking about the film again." CS: Are you still happy with the movie and do you think it stands up a year later, especially with the changing climate in the country? Morgen: Listen, I totally stand by the film that we made and since the premiere at Sundance, I read most of the blogs and reviews of the film and sometimes you read that stuff and you read criticism of it and you go, "Damn, I would like to go back and fix that." The criticisms of the film were suggesting I would make a film that I would never make. Some people would occasionally have issues with the music, or the lack of context, those two areas primarily and those were things that I knew would polarize audiences.
Ron Paul "libertarians" and the Hitler Youth
I don't suppose it would do any good to remind the "libertarians" that this is the same old tired horseshit that brought the "neocons" to "power???" Blah blah... smaller government... yadda yadda... brought you Ronzo Reagan... who paved the way for the Bushistas... all fighting the evils of "collectivism." I think G. Edward Griffin is sincere... I think Ron Paul is sincere... shit... Reagan was sincere. So was Hitler. And I have to admit... when Griffin said "collectivism and freedom are mortal enemies," I wanted to shoot him. Especially prefaced by by all his "we don't need a majority" and "we must seize power" crap. Die Fanne hoch... I've heard it all before. Frankly, you young "libertarians" scare the crap out of me. You remind me of the Hitler Jugend. You want roads to drive on... cops to "protect" you, water to come out of the tap...
