| The Ebb and Flow of Movies: Box Office Receipts 1986 - 2007
Summer blockbusters and holiday hits make up the bulk of box office revenue each year, while contenders for the top Oscar awards tend to attract smaller audiences that build over time. Here's a look at how movies have fared at the box office, after adjusting for inflation. .
Open Letter To George W. Bush
Perhaps you are not worried about this lonely epidemic of death, disease and injury day after day, since it is not caused by terrorists. Even if every three weeks, workplace conditions lead to a fatality toll greater than 9/11. Imagine, every three weeks, on average. Remember Mr. Bush, you said "all human life is precious and deserves to be protected." This is especially so when the perils are so preventable by timely regulatory inspections and enforcement of up-to-date life-saving standards. It comes back, in the final analysis, to that oath of office you took, doesn't it, to enforce the laws under our Constitution whose preamble starts with "We the People." Not "We the Corporations." Ralph Nader is a consumer advocate, lawyer, and author. His most recent book is The Seventeen Traditions.
Saints battle for point at Plymouth
Peter Halmosi tried his luck from just inside the Saints half on 11 minutes but it was a comfortable catch for Kelvin Davis. But Wright-Phillips atoned for his earlier miss when he gave Saints the lead on 12 minutes. Alexander Ostlund played a long ball from the right into Wright-Phillips whose run took him in behind the Plymouth defence. He took the ball in his stride superbly and pushed into the area and when McCormick came out to try and stop him Wright-Phillips delicately lifted it over him and into the far corner for 1-0. After a lively start the game started to get a little more bogged down in the midfield area. Vignal decided to have a pop at goal on 25 minutes but from 30 yards slashed his effort high and wide. Darren Powell was the first man booked for a foul on Norris after he had robbed him of the ball and broken away.
Obama Trounces Clinton in Wisconsin and Hawaii to Make It Ten in a Row
Does Michelle Obama dislike America? That is the subject of this evening's "Talking Points Memo." Not as much as the neoconBushcultists, it turns out. By April, it will be "Does Michelle Obama HATE America?" During the summer, we'll be treated to "Why Do the Obamas hate all of white America and most Latinos, too?" In the fall, it'll be, "Does Obama hate America so much, he's planning to rename it New Africa?" Hell, McCrazy is already accusing the Dems of pre-genocide… .
Denzler: Caught off guard by a proud moment
It has been my finding that no matter how trying some parental decisions and moments may be, witnessing a smile on a child's face on Christmas morning, being given a hug, a firm handshake by a young adult as they leave for college or simply being told goodnight before another day comes to an end are great rewards. With that in mind I wish to pass along a quote from Ecclesiastes: "Generations come and go but it makes no difference. The sun rises and sets and hurries around to rise again. The wind blows south and north, here and there. Twisting back and forth, getting nowhere. The rivers run into the sea but the sea is never full, and the water returns again to the rivers and flows again to the seas ... Everything is unutterably weary and tiresome. No matter how much we see, we are never satisfied; no matter how much we hear, we are not content, so I saw that there is nothing better for men than that they should be happy in their work.
